I will be honest, I liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple of clicks and a client can place an order with a freelancer according to a specific set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A large one.
That is only the few freelance platforms at which buyers are given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail vendors any way they like.
In this post, I want to talk about a new bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, and why I chose to give up on the platform altogether.
(I've been advising her on building a reputable accounts, and the way to go above and beyond every last purchase. Everything mentioned is her doing, I am only an observer.)
In cases like this, she'd just gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which appeared to be like any other... so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in good time, and my buddy had included a bonus logo concept in addition to the source file (that is usually part of the pricier package).
The client"loved" one of those concepts and so we moved to send her the appropriates file sizes, as mentioned in the gig description.
The client came back asking for a social media kit to go with the emblem, something which is obviously not offered as a member of her post.
Against my advice, my buddy decided to deliver the further work, although not getting paid any extra for it.
Following that, the customer responded with more requirements and some alterations to the social networking files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
This is when the client went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took some time to ponder a response and reach to Fiverr support for help, the customer did finally go on and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to show her he/she was It's a fiverr - Review of Ernesto, Tel Aviv, Israel - TripAdvisor not kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service question, the customer paid an additional $10 site here for the social networking kit.
Naturally, the payment has been accompanied by still another threat.
At this point, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and seek this individual down so that I could punch them in the face.
However, at the moment, I had hope that Fiverr service could step in and save my girlfriend from that PITA client.
After the response came back from Fiverr support, they told her they could Fiverr Review: 5 Fast Facts Video Wiki not induce the purchaser to accept the order.
Alright, that's reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a list for the buyer to reveal the work was completed in accordance with the gig prerequisites.
My girlfriend hauled in her initial email the customer was hoping to extort her for free work outside the agreed periods, by leaving a negative inspection if she didn't comply.
Of course, it wasn't about the job, it had been all about seeking protection against an abusive client who was blatantly pushing their luck.
Their reply didn't provide either of us some confidence that Fiverr really understood , and even at this stage we felt as though they did not wish to get involved.
At exactly the same time, she also responded to the buyers latest danger, explaining that she would not continue to operate with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this will be comments which was obviously and blatantly left to bully her to supplying function out the agreed conditions )
An honest request by anyones standards, appropriate?
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all the rules.
Because she had requested the customer to change their feedback, she was no more entitled to some assistance from Fiverr support.
It's possible to imagine how we both felt studying this.
Everything that the buyer had said and done prior to her last message has been now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened at all.
Fiverr essentially chose to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an accounts she'd worked so difficult to accumulate.
If everything that occurred was not troubling enough, it is knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors without a sprinkling of repercussion.
And believe me, there are tons of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
But as all of this was happening, I did a little research to determine whether some other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Quite quickly, I found a number of almost equal cases about the Fiverr forum dated years ago. (that's correct, years.)
This is clearly something that's been happening for a long time and it all stems from giving buyers too much power over sellers.
If there's 1 thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time you put into a project, or just how hard you worked on it, or even how well you handled communication during a dispute, even as it really boils down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it's a clear cut case in your favor, there is still every chance the client will come out at the top. All it takes it one little thing that you"did no way" in accordance with their own conditions of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Taking a look at the signs, it is obvious to me Fiverr is well aware of what is happening, yet remains keen to settle back and let it happen.
If you're a decision maker in Fiverr and you're reading this, I implore you to seriously reconsider your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can put all the time and effort in to establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible chance, just to be shot down from the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I don't wish to abandon Fiverr. I don't wish to be telling people to avoid your own platform.
But after everything that's occurred, you haven't left me any selection.
Until something is done in order to protect freelancers from using this kind of abuse, I'll continue to spread this post and do whatever I could to prevent others from falling victim to your one-sided support staff.
The next you truly do something about it and also provide freelancers a means to fight back, I will be more than happy to update this article.
